Learning Korean Through K-Pops: My Husband Got a Family Drama (By: Popo)

Diposting oleh Popo... The Kite Runner di 16.06 0 komentar

On the article today, we will feature a TV Drama that entire family can enjoy together.

Let me introduce “My Husband Got a Family”.

“My Husband Got a Family” is about Gwinam, a handsome doctor who marries Yunhui, a professional businesswoman and the things that happen in their new house.

Gwinam

Yunhui

When Yunhui’s orphan husband dramatically finds his family, she becomes part of a big family including a grandma and sisters-in-law. The various experiences that Yunhui and Gwinam go through show us the true sentiments that Koreans have on marriage and family issues, making the show very popular.

Are you curious about the meaning of the show’s original title? There’s a Korean proverb that says, “a pumpkin is rolling in neongkuljjae”. In the past, pumpkin was a very valuable plant full of nutrients. “Neongkul” indicates the long stalk attached to a plant. When a pumpkin comes in “neongkuljjae”, it means that great things continue to happen. In the drama, Yunhui get a loving husband and new family, and great things happen.

Shall we find out how family members call each other in the drama?

Malsuk and Segwang were dating secretly. But they were caught by their sister and brother.

I’ll organize the titles in the family so that you can understand easily.

First, you’ll have to know how to call your parents. Your parents are called “Abeoji (아버지)” and “Eomeoni (어머니)”.

But this is formal way to call your parents. Children can call their parents “Appa (아빠)” and “Eomma (엄마)”.

Between siblings born to the same parents, it gets a bit complicated, so read carefully.

If you’re a female like me, you’d be calling an older sister “Eonni (언니)”
“Eonni (언니)”!!!

And you’d call an older brother “Oppa (오빠)”.
“Oppa (오빠)”!!!

If I were a male, the titles would be different.

I’d call an older sister “Nuna (누나)”.
“Nuna (누나)”!!!

And an older brother is called “Hyeong ()”.
“Hyeong ()”!!!

There are various names for sibling who are older. But to a younger sibling, you can just call his or her name.

I’m sure you’ve heard that Koreans call people “Eonni (언니)” and “Oppa (오빠)” even if they’re not family.

Fans call their favorite stars “Oppa (오빠)”.

Kyuhyun Oppa (규휸아빠!!!)
Siwon Oppa (시왼아빠!!)
Minho Oppa (민호아빠!!!)

“Eonni (언니)”, “Oppa (오빠)”, “Nuna (누나)”, and “Hyeong ()” are used to call anyone who is friends even if not family. Why don’t you try using these words to call others? It’ll help you form a bond and bring you closer together.

But what would you call people who aren’t family member?

To call someone who you’ve met for the first time, you should be quite formal. Is it hard? I’ll tell you an easy way. You can just add “_ssi ()” at the end of one’s name.

Ka Eran ssi (가에란씨)
Bang Gwinam ssi (방권암씨)
Lee Dong Hae ssi (이동해씨)

Like that. Isn’t it easy?

If you become closer and if both parties agree, you can leave out the first name and just add “_ssi ()” to the last name.

Eran ssi (에란씨)
Gwinam ssi (권암씨)
Dong hae ssi (동해씨)

What do you think? Isn’t easy to learn the titles?

Shall we review the titles that we learned trough “My Husband Got a Family”?

Your parents are called “Abeoji (아버지)” and “Eomeoni (어머니)” .

Children can call their parents “Appa (아빠)” and “Eomma (엄마)”.

If you’re female like me, you’d call an older brother “Oppa (오빠)”, and older sister “Eonni (언니)”.

If I were a male, an older brother is called “Hyeong ()”. Ad I’d call an older sister “Nuna (누나)”.

What would you call me?

To all the Eomeoni, Abeoji, Eonni, Oppa, and everyone else, see you again next time, Annyeong!!!

A Man in Love (Part 2)

Diposting oleh Popo... The Kite Runner di 18.34 0 komentar

Pertemuan yang salah….

Yunho berjalan mantap menuju gerbang Universitas Korea.
Yunho memasuki gerbang universitas sambil membaca buku kumpulan soal-soal ujian Negara.
Lalu pandangan keduanya bertemu.
“Geure, kau Nona Chae Rin?” tanya Yunho memastikan.
“Geure,” jawab Yunho. Dia merasakan dadanya berdetak sedikit lebih cepat.
“Kenapa di sini? Kau ikut ujian masuk juga?” tanya Chae Rin.
“Benar, Nona, aku mengikuti uji, an masuk,” jawab Yunho.
“Ne,”
“Jam berapa ini?” tanya yunho lagi.
Chae Rin melihat jam tangannya, “Jam sepuluh lewat limabelas,”
“Mwo? Kita terlambat!!!”
“Mwo?”
“Ah, dimana pulpenku?” kata Chae Rin smabil mengaduk-aduk tasnya. Yunho menoleh.
“Pakai punyaku saja,” kata Yunho sambil menyerahkan sebuah pulpen.
Satu jam kemudian, ujian berakhir. Yunho menoleh.
“kau mau pulang?” tanya Chae Rin.
“Ne, Nona Chae Rin, maksudku Chae Rin,” kata Yunho kaku.
Chae Rin tertawa sebentar.
“Oh, geure, aku pergi dulu kalau begitu, annyeong,” Chae Rin melambaikan tangan.
Yunho hanya mengangguk. Chae Rin berbalik meninggalkan Yunho. Yunho memandang kepergian Chae Rin sesaat lalu menuju ke ruang administrasi.
*********************************************************************
“Semoga saja memang begitu, awas saja kalau kau macam-macam,”
“Annyeonghaseyo, Paman Jungjin,” Chae Rin mendekati mereka.
Paman Jungjin menoleh, “Oh, Nona Chae Rin, kau mencari Tuan Muda?”
“Annyeong Nona Chae Rin,” sapa Yunho.
“Ya! Berapa kali kubilang padamu? Panggil aku Chae Rin, kenapa kau masih saja memanggilku Nona?” Chae Rin berkacak pinggang sambil menegur Yunho.
“Mian, Chae Rin,” kata Yunho.
“Lalu kau mau masuk mana?” tanya Chae Rin.
“Entahlah, aku belum begitu yakin,”
“Bukankah Tuan Muda memang selalu santai?” seloroh Yunho.
“Kau benar, dia benar-benar ceroboh,” sambung Chae Rin.
“Jadi kalian bersekongkol menjatuhkan aku?” tanya lee Joon.
Yunho dan Chae Rin tertawa. Lee Joon pun ikut tertawa. Tiba-tiba seseorang datang menghampiri mereka. Seorang laki-laki 50 tahunan datang sambil tersenyum kearah mereka. Yunho menatap pria itu lalu wajahnya menegang. Ingatang masa lalunya pun timbul tanpa ampun.

Learning Korean Trough K-Pops: Bread, Love, and Dream Drama (By: Popo)

Diposting oleh Popo... The Kite Runner di 16.33 0 komentar

Something smells delicious..!!!

For your information, I really enjoy eating bread and cake. I’ll introduce you to a man who makes the best bread in Korea.

It’s Kim Takgu, the main character of “Bread, Love, and Dream”.

“Bread, Love, and Dream” is about a boy who wanted to make bread that would make full as he continues his journey to become a pastry chef by winning over obstacle. Kim Takgu is able to make the bread merely by smelling it, and figure out its ingredients. The show featured the bread making process and touched the TV audiences with Kim’s reunion with his mother.

Do you the meaning of “Jeppangwang”, a word in the title?
“Jeppang” is the process of making bread, and “Wang” is the leader of a nation. A “Wang” in a certain field indicates that the person is a master. “Jeppangwang” indicates the person who makes the best bread.

The best cook is called “Yoriwang”
Someone great at playing soccer is “Chukguwang”
A great inventor is known as “Balmyongwang”

Today’s expression can be found in the scene in which Gu Maju, the rival of Kim Takgu, falls in love with Takgu’s girlfriend. In the scene Yugyeong bumped into Maju.

After Kim Takgu hurt his eyes, his colleagues helped him get treated.

Let’s find out what you can say when you receive someone’s help.

“Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) is a greeting you say when someone helps you.

Kim Takgu says “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) to the elders at the pastry shop.

When you’re talking to someone younger or a close friend, you can say “gomaptta (고맙다)or “gomawo (고마워)”.

Kim Takgu says “gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) to the elders, and says “gomaptta (고맙다)to his friend, Misun.

For more formal you can say “khamsahamnida (감사합니다I)

Mother, gomapsseumnida.
Misun, gomaptta.
Eran, gomawo.

That’s how you can use these words.

But what if you’ve done wrong to someone?

When Yugyeong bumps into Majun, she says “Joesonghamnida (죄송합니다) to him.

“Joesonghamnida (죄송합니다) is what you say in order to apologize.

You can also say “Mianhamnida (미안합니다) instead of “Joesonghamnida (죄송합니다).

As in the case with “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다), “Gomaptta (고맙다), “Gomawo (고마워), you can say “Mianhada (미안 하다) and “Mianhae (미안해) instead of “Joesonghamnida (죄송합니다).

Teacher, mianhamnida.
Takgu, mianhada.
Yugyeong, mianhae.

That’s how you use the words.

Please try to remember!

Many people find Korean is very difficult to learn because of certain words. While learning Korean, I’m sure that you have noticed that there is a different in words used when talking to those who are younger and those who are older. They are called “Jondaenmal ” and “Banmal”.

When you talk to someone who is older, a teacher, or someone you meet for the first time end words with –sseumnida or –eoyo.
When you’re talking to someone younger, you can end words with –eo or –a.
Instead of thinking this is hard; you should try repeating the words. In no time, you’ll be able to speak these words naturally without having to think too much.

There is one last thing we must remember. How will you answer if someone say “Gomaptta (고맙다)” or “Mianhae (미안해)?

If someone says “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) to you, you can aswer by saying “Byeolmalsseumullyo (별말쏨을요).

When someone says “Mianhamnida (미안합니다) to you, you can answer by saying “Gwaenchana (괜찬아).

“Byeolmalsseumullyo (별말쏨을요)in response to “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다).

“Gwaenchana (괜찬아) in  response to “Mianhamnida (미안합니다).

If you use words like “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다)” and “Mianhamnida (미안합니다) often, you’ll be able to be on good trems with anyone you meet.

“Bread, Love, and Dreams” was popular due to the rivalry of Kim Takgu and Gu Majun. Yoon Siyoon who played Kim Takgu was not only good with the action scenes, but he was also praised for his great acting.

He’s filming a new movie in Japan, so you can look forward to it.

Jo Woon had played Gu Majun, Kim Takgu’s rival. He went to play a policeman on “Ojakgyo Family”.

These days, he’s extremely popular with his leading role on “Bridal Mask”.

Hemm… I think I smell something good… I think someone is cooking something delicious near here. Oh it’s Kim Takgu’s mother. She is carefully preparing a dish for her husband after being separated from him for a long time.

She was cooked “Haemul Kalguksu (홰물깔궄수)

“Kalguksu (깔궄수) gets its name because the noodles are made with flour dough and cut out with “Kal ()” which mean “knife”.

When the noodles are boiled in tasty seafood soup, you have “Haemul Kalguksu (홰물깔궄수)

Koreans enjoy this dish on rainy days. Would you like to taste it?

Do you remember what we’ve learned today?

“Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) and “Gomawoyo (고마워요). To a friend, simply say “Gomawo (고마워)

“Mianhamnida (미안합니다) and “Mianheyo (미안해요). Simply say “Mianhae (미안해)to a friend.

When someone says “Gomapsseumnida (고맙습니다) answer by saying “Byeolmalsseumullyo (별말쏨을요).

And say “Gwaenchana (괜찬아)when someone says “Mianhamnida (미안합니다).

To all those of you who have read this, Gomawoyo…

Annyeong, everyone!!!!!!!

Learning Korean Trough K-Pops: Dream High Drama (By:Popo)

Diposting oleh Popo... The Kite Runner di 05.01 0 komentar

Dear Readers,
Using Korean Dramas and K-Pops as your guide, we will learn the Korean language in fun way.

The TV Drama we will start today is “Dream High”

“Dream High” is TV series about high school students at an art school, their challenges and their love interest.

Jinguk dances to rebel against his father.

Hyemi is a very haughty girl who regards herself as the best.

And Samdong is a country boy who likes Hyemi.

Baeghui is character who wants to beat Hyemi.

There are many great characters in the show.

Shall we learn how to say greeting from the characters? First take a look at the students’ introducing themselves for an audition.

Samdong and Jinguk were greeting their teacher and parents.
Everyone says “Annyeonghaseyo (안녕하세요)
The most widely spoken greeting in the Korean language is “Annyeonghaseyo” (안녕하세요).
“Annyeong (안녕)” is the most important part of “Annyeonghaseyo (안녕하세요).
By conjugating the word “Annyeong (안녕)”, you can make many new versions.
“Annyeong (안녕) can be defined as “a calm state and rest”.
Between friends, you can say “Annyeong (안녕) as a greeting.

Samdong-aa annyeong (-
Annyeong Samdong-aa (안녕 -)

You can say the word “annyeong (안녕)” either before or after someone’s name.
“Annyeonghaseyo (안녕하세요)is a polite greeting that you can say when you meet someone who is older than you.
An even more formal form of the word is “Annyeonghasimnikka (안녕하십니까).
Say “Annyeong (안녕)to a friend.
“Annyeonghaseyo (안녕하세요) to a new acquaintance or an elderly adult.
“Annyeonghasimnikka (안녕하십니까)is a word that sounds even more formal.
Please don’t forget it!

How would you introduce yourself to someone you meet for the first time?
It’s very simple.
Just say:
Jeoneun__your name__imnida (저는 ___ 입니다)

Ex: Jeouneun popo imnida.
You can leave out “jeoneun (저는)” if you want to.

see the characters introduce themselves:

Ko Hyemi imnida (Ko Hyemi
Yun baeghui imnida (Yun Baeghui
Popo imnida (보보 입니다)
So on and so forth.

Then what would you say when you say goodbye?
When Samdong’s mother leaves, Hyemi says “Annyeonghi gaseyo (안녕히 가세요).
“Annyeonghi gaseyo (안녕히 가세요)and “Annyeonghi gyeseyo (안녕히 계세요)”. Both mean “goodbye”.

“Annyeonghi gyeseyo (안녕히 계세요) is what you say when you leave the other party.
When the other party leaves, you say “Annyeonghi gaseyo (안녕히 가세요).

When I leave, I say “Annyeonghi gyeseyo (안녕히 계세요)”.
When other people leave, you say “Annyeonghi gaseyo (안녕히 가세요)”.

Between close friends, you can say “Jar_isseo” and “Jalga (잘가)
“Jar_isseo” if you are the one leaving.
“Jalga (잘가)is you say when your friend leaves.

Is it a bit difficult?
There is the easiest way.
You can say “Annyeong (안녕) to mean both “hello” or “goodbye”
But remember that you can’t say “Annyeong (안녕)to an older adult.

That's the expression that we can learn.

There are so many handsome actors and beautiul artist in this TV Drama. But “Dream High” isn’t just about its handsome actors. A special food appears on the show. What would it be?
It’s time for a meal with everyone gathered together. Ms. Kang gives only Jinguk a special dish.

This food is called “Sagolkkuk”. It is a soup made of cow bones boiled for a long period. You can add salt, black pepper, and spring onion as you like. It’s Korean traditional dish. It’s a great and healthy food that keeps you warm. Because it’s rich in vitamins and requires much dedication to make, “Sagolkkuk” was served for only important guests. Are you curious what it tastes like?

Through “Dream High”, you’ve learned how to greet in Korean. We’ve also looked into delicious Korean food and celebrities.

Let me recap the greetings we have learned today.
When you meet someone for the first time, or to someone older, you can say “Annyeonghaseyo (안녕하세요)”.
When you want to say goodbye say “Annyeonghi gaseyo (안녕히 가세요)” or “Annyeonghi gyeseyo (안녕히 계세요)”.
If you’re close, you can say “Annyeong (안녕)”, “Jar_isseo”, and Jalga (잘가)”,
Don’t forget that “Annyeong (안녕) is the most important part of saying greeting.

I’ll see you next time.
